School Wide Giving Tree
The Process of making the School Wide Giving Tree
This tree was made to be placed in every school. Schools use a certain amount of paper every year. This school wide initiative is to get the commitment of participating schools to raise the money to plant as many trees as their paper usage. For example, a High School of 1,200 students needs to plant approximately 50 trees to balance the schools paper usage. If your school is anywhere in the world (outside of Whatcom County, WA) we are working with the organization One Tree Planted where every dollar plants one tree. Therefore such a school would contribute $50 towards planting trees. The money goes through Kids Art for Climate Justice (so kids can see how many trees they have planted!) and then directly to One Tree Planted. In Whatcom county, the trees are planted through NSEA and cost about $20/tree – thus $1000 is needed to plant locally. NSEA makes sure the trees grow strong and is a local Whatcom County organization. This branch of the Giving Tree Project is to step in the direction of not leaving a negative impact on the environment and our local ecosystems and encourage kids to be aware of the way there actions impact the world around them.
