Not Enough
Poet: Jade Terrris

Not enough
to just say you support the dolphins
or put a plastic sticker on your car
to move your lips into an upward crescent

We need smiles that crinkle
like wrappers
And actions
not just words and stickers

It’s not enough
How can we possibly think it’s enough?

When thousands of others are standing on tireless feet with signs
For our children and grandchildren

When cities are being swallowed by the ever rising waters
When the little creature, cute on your phone homescreen
has no habitat to live in
And is forced to dig through your garbage

It’s still not enough

Not until every child every grandchild every animal every bug every sapling
Every creature
is guaranteed a planet to thrive on
not just to survive on

So no it will not be enough until the rivers flow
With the laughter of all creatures
Till the ocean reflects every smile that crinkles

Who knows if it will ever be enough
But it sure won’t Be
If we don’t keep trying
