My Heart is Bestowed in the Earth
Poet: Jade Terrris

Our Beautiful Sun
Giver of all life
From my heart
I give her my love
And she gives me life
Thinning out our atmosphere
Holding the air we breath
Creates harmful ultraviolet
solar radiation
that we now protect against

Imagine a world without air

The wind roars while
the ocean blows
through the night sky
up and away the world goes
She stands there not worried
about a single blade of grass
The moonlight surrounding her
with its mighty luminous grasp
that protects her
from the mighty waves

As the sea warms along with
our global temperature
Tsunami and hurricanes increase
Affecting low-lying coastal areas
Where more than 700 million people live

Imagine if the sea swept away your home and family

Dolphins noisy chatter joins the cacophony of the sea
Vibrations echo through my body
Coral reefs steaming with colorful life
I feel connected and free
In the endless blue sea
Plastic strangles
fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals
ingesting plastic debris
causes suffocation, starvation, and drowning
estimated 13 million metric tons of plastic
ends up in the ocean
each year

Imagine if you were force fed plastic for dinner

A creek whispers nearby
garden bursting with color
grandma’s cookies wafting
boards creak
under grandpa’s slipper

Pipelines of liquid poison
running through the land
Destroying habitat

Imagine a bomb under your home, waiting to burst

As I let the wind take my prayers into the mountains
the mountains wrap me in a safe hug
Oblivious of the tornado outside of my refuge
nature enwraps me in its love

MountainTop Removal
They are chopping off our mountain tops!
To get lumber for us
Leaving debris in their wake
metals infiltrating our water

Imagine only having poisoned water to drink

The trees echo with silence
Reaching endless to the sky
The afternoon sunbeams
illuminating a soft green glow
Over the forest floor

Rainforest takes 2/3 of the carbon dioxide out of the air
Lowering the global temperature
300 football fields of our rainforest
is cut down every hour
One-third is already gone
Palm oil is the biggest source of deforestation in the Amazon

Imagine someone cutting your land up

Birch trees in moonlight
Silver light casting shadows
upon the frozen earth
Greenland is losing
270 billion tons of ice
per year
Antarctica is melting
At about 150 billion tons
per year

Imagine if Your house was melting

Anger bursts from inside of me
The rain softens my anger
Nature helps me heal
We have a global empathy
deficiency crisis

Imagine if No one cared anymore

My heart is bestowed in the earth
The earth is destroyed
My heart would be destroyed too
